Every child belongs in a safe and nurturing family environment | KePodChi EP.3
In this episode, we unpack a tough but important question: If children haven’t lost both parents and they’re not orphans, why are they placed in homes? Through real-life stories, we explore experiences, misconceptions, and what it takes to ensure children grow up with care, connection and support. But first, what is residential care? Residential care is care provided in any non-family-based group setting, such as places of safety for emergency care, transit centres in emergency situations, and all other short- and long-term residential care facilities, including group homes. Moderated by Meenatharisni Sundramohana, this episode features Dr Eric Sivanesh, Pooja Udayan and Sean, who share their journeys, advocacy and reflections on care, connection and the importance of family-based environments for children’s wellbeing. Based on the local Hokkien term Kepochi—colloquially referring to someone who is curious and involved in the issues around them, we’ve reimagined it as KePodchi (pod for podcast, with children and young people taking the lead), reflecting the spirit of youth curiosity, engagement, and action.
