This project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and led by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment, and Climate Change (NRECC) through the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) as the national executing agency and together with UNIDO acting as the GEF Implementing Agency.
In a significant development, HENZ Pacific in Kuching has committed to investing in a demonstration project known as "Kuching Metro Solar Smart Electric Bus Charging Station." This innovative charging station for electric buses utilizes solar energy and digital technologies for energy storage and system monitoring. Its purpose is to showcase the feasibility and potential of low-carbon technologies in Kuching.
This partnership with HENZ Pacific involves construction of a new bus depot and expansion of their electric bus fleets in Kuching. To achieve this, the project partners, including NRECC, UNIDO, and MGTC, will provide technical support to HENZ Pacific for the construction of the solar charging station and its monitoring system.
The official launch of this partnership, marked by the exchange of a strategic collaboration agreement (MoA), is scheduled for October 3rd at the Borneo Cultures Museum Auditorium. This momentous event will be witnessed by Yang Berhormat Dr. Hazland Abang Hipni, Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Sarawak, and UNIDO's representative, Sooksiri Chamsuk.
